One of our favorite hummingbird plants is Zauschneria septentrionalis 'Select Mattole'. Unlike many of other Zauschneria, this one is less vigorous in growth and in our garden has grown no wider than two feet in fifteen years. It also is more tolerant of light shade conditions and some summer water, making it ideal for gardeners in the Pacific Northwest. That said, we encourage you to grow this in full sun if you can. Give it good drainage as well. It is deciduous and easy to clean up during the winter. The silvery foliage displays the bright flowers perfectly. GPP (Zauschneria have been reclassified as Epilobium, however, we have retained the earlier name because that is how most of our customers refer to the plant.)

Midsummer to autumn.   1 ft. x 2 ft.
