The common name Barren strawberry suggests the appearance of the foliage of this useful groundcover which is at home in both sun and part shade. As the specific names implies, the rugged leaves of Waldsteinia ternata are three-part. Increasing by underground runners, the plant spreads slowly to create a dense mass of attractive but deciduous foliage. The yellow, 5-petalled flowers produce inedible fruit.
