This species of grass can reach two to four feet, but the selection Stipa lessingiana 'Capriccio' is shorter and perhaps more useful for containers and the modern small garden. The fine-textured, evergreen blades of grass are hairlike and stir easily at the slightest breeze. This gives a refreshing sense of movement to the garden. Because this is a cool-season grass and blooms early in the summer, the attractive narrow awns remain on their flowering stems throughout the growing season.

Early July.  14-16 in. x 24-30 in.
