When the pincushion flowers of Scabiosa atropurpurea 'Black Cat' are newly opened, they are truly black. As they expand, their red velvety highlights are revealed. As they mature sexually, tiny violet stamens emerge adding yet another beautiful detail. These are said to be annuals but have proven perennial for us.
