For more than a decade, we have grown Clematis patens 'Komurasaki', a selection of the species Clematis patens which is found in the wild on the island of Kyushu and named by Minoru Hosino. In spring it attracts many photographers when it covers itself from head to toe with large soft rounded flowers. It has also been generous with a modest repeat bloom throughout the summer. The anthers are a subtle green yellow. All of our Clematis are two year old plants that are suitable for immediate planting in your garden.

Spring with summer repeat.  8 ft.

Early flowering in the spring on the previous year's growth. If you hard prune, you eliminate most or all of the early blooms. Instead, groom this after flowering by cutting back the top one-third to one-half of some stems. This encourages new growth for possible summer bloom.
