Clematis 'Kakio' bears flowers with mauve pink sepals which are darker at the edges. The central boss of stamens have whitish filaments and yellow anthers. This sister to Clematis 'Asao' was raised by Kazushige Ozawa in 1971. Like its sister, it is very free flowering. Both are from a cross between C. 'Ernest Markham' and the Japanese form of C. 'Star of India'. This is a Great Plant Pick. All of our Clematis are two year old plants that are suitable for immediate planting in your garden.

Spring to early summer; late summer to early fall.  6-8 ft.

Early flowering in the spring on the previous year's growth. If you hard prune, you eliminate most or all of the early blooms. Instead, groom this after flowering by cutting back the top one-third to one-half of some stems. This encourages new growth for possible summer bloom.
