The Japanese name of Clematis 'Hanaguruma' (Goro Josha, 1985) means 'flower wheel'. It has taken a long time for our frail imported specimen to come to bloom. This somewhat dwarf climber is suitable for a container or the garden. The lovely rounded flowers have contrasting subdued yellow stamens and once established will bloom freely. All of our Clematis are two year old plants that are suitable for immediate planting in your garden.

Spring and late summer.  6-8 ft.

Bright Red Purple flowers

Sun, Part Shade     Zones 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9
Early flowering in the spring on the previous year's growth. If you hard prune, you eliminate most or all of the early blooms. Instead, groom this after flowering by cutting back the top one-third to one-half of some stems. This encourages new growth for possible summer bloom.
