The ruffled, 3.5-inch blooms are violet with a red bar down each sepal. The foliage also is attractive, the late season leaves developing dark stains which show off the woolly flower buds. This summer bloomer has it main crop on the current year's growth. Prune this back hard at the end of winter to encourage new growth.
