We grow French tarragon more for its culinary use than as an ornamental. The species of this subshrub itself is rather vigorous, but the selection Artemisia drancunculus 'Sativa,' which is known as French tarragon (as opposed to Russian tarragon) is not nearly as tough or winter hardy and seems to be unhappy in winter wet conditions. We have to protect our plants during the wet winter if we want them to perform well in the coming spring. We mostly grow these in containers so we can move them when and where we want. The silver green leaves are highly aromatic and we use them either fresh or cut and dried. We have not seen our plants bloom.

Late summer.  1.5 ft. x 1.5 ft.

Greenish white flowers
