Eastern North America. Although not showy, this perennial is treasured for its ephemeral flower show during the transition into spring. The fern-like foliage of blue-green emerges from the woodland floor early in the season. Soon, cup-shaped flowers, less than an inch wide, appear in loose umbels of two to four. Over time, the tuberous roots of Anemonella thalictroides can form small colonies of delicate foliage that begins to go dormant at the end of summer or early fall.
