The rounded floral heads of Agapanthus inepterus ssp. pendulus 'Nigrescens' are the last of the Agapanthus to open in our garden. This comes from the Transvaal area of South Africa where it gets regular rainfall during the spring. Despite its African heritage, its long, tubular, inky purple flowers attract local hummingbirds and butterflies. Pair the flowers with Rudbeckias and other bronze flowers for a delightful combination. The seedheads are also attractive, as are the graceful arching strap leaves.

July to August.   3-5.5 ft. x 2 ft.
