Known both as hardy marjorum and Italian oregano, Origanum x majoricum 'Sicilian' is a spicy, pungent herb that we have come to enjoy for culinary purposes. Rose Marie Nichols McGee of Nichols Garden Nursery introduced us to this herb when she did a workshop for us. She told us this is the most flavorful oregano she has ever grown and asked us to try it. When she left our nursery, she left behind a tub of useful and attractive edibles built around this oregano. The oregano is still going strong despite several colder than usual winters. And she is right, it is indeed flavorful, combining the robust flavor of its Origanum vulgare (Oregano) parent and the sweetness of its other parent, Origanum majorana (Marjorum).
