Ischyrolepis subverticillata is also known as Broom restio. The common name describes the appearance of this interesting ornamental grass from South Africa. Some have also compared it to a giant horsetail. But its upright stems with green whorls of branchlets are at once softer and more complex than that image. Generally hardy to 20 degrees F.
