Cotinus 'Grace' is a hybrid between Cotinus obovatus and C. coggygria 'Velvet Cloak' and was created by Peter Dummer of Hillier Nursery in the UK. The result is a large shrub or small tree with bright wine-red young leaves that turn blue green as they mature and then take on vivid colors in the autumn. It is fast growing but can be kept in scale for a smaller garden by giving it a hard prune at the end of winter. When the large airy panicles of flowers appear, the effect is riveting. A Great Plant Picks selection.
