Clematis patens is the major parent of the large flowered, spring blooming clematis. Over the years we have acquired many forms of this species in our attempt to better understand the history of their development. We raised this form from seed that was collected near Nara, Japan. The mother plant is the only seedling that grew from the few seeds we were given and we labeled it Clematis patens ex Nara. These are cuttings from that plant which we have had in our collection for almost twenty years. There are many reasons to grow this form of the species. It is easy to grow. Its modest growth habit makes it suitable for smaller gardens. And its white flowers are lovely.

May to June and late summer.  6-8 ft.
