This is one of the many seedlings that Mr. Ozawa selected for trial before his death. His nephew Mr. Chikuma named and released this in 2008. Clematis 'Yugao' (Kazushige Ozawa) was named for a character in the famous ancient novel Tales of Genji. That character was named for the Japanese moonflower. Like so many of Mr. Ozawa's crosses, this is very long blooming. The nodding flowers are bell-shaped and 1.5 inches wide. Their sepals are dark violet at the base fading to pale pink at their tips which are slightly recurved. The sepals are also very pale along their margins. Altogether, this makes for a very beguiling flower. The red purple flower stems accent the soft flower color All of our Clematis are two year old plants that are suitable for immediate planting in your garden.
