Many customers have thanked us for introducing them to Clematis 'Edomurasaki' (Seijuro Arai, 1952). The name, which literally means "Edo purple" (Edo being the former capital of Japan), suggests a majestic or imperial purple. Indeed this is majestic, especially when the large, slightly cupped flowers are still dazzling amid the ripening colors of the autumn garden. The dark anthers and green filaments blend into the flower. All of our Clematis are two year old plants that are suitable for immediate planting in your garden.

Late spring to early summer; late summer.  8-10 ft.

Deep Blue Purple flowers

Sun, Part Shade     Zones 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9
Early flowering in the spring on the previous year's growth. If you hard prune, you eliminate most or all of the early blooms. Instead, groom this after flowering by cutting back the top one-third to one-half of some stems. This encourages new growth for possible summer bloom.
