(Cistus salvifolius x C. inflatus) After two severe winters damaged or destroyed many of the cistus in our gardens, our friend Paul Bonine of Xera Plants suggested that we try this compact species. He was right. This has proven very hardy for us. Small and mounding in shape, its stems are purple when young. They are covered with blunt-tipped green leaves that are lightly woolly to the touch. The white flowers have a yellow splotch at the base of each petal. We have been pleased that this blooms for such a long time, well into the summer. We grow Cistus x obtusifolius in a no-water bed where it complements other dry-land plants like Muhlenbergia rigens, Lavandula stoechas 'White Flags', and Halimium x pauanum.

Late spring to early summer.  3 ft. x 3 ft.
