The narrow green leaves of Cistus monspeliensis are lightly resinous and deeply veined on young green stems that are blushed rose. In late spring, clusters of small slightly cupped flowers with yellow stamens adorn the shrub. The petals are indented at their tips.

This is a genus of small to medium sized evergreen and semi-evergreen shrubs that are mostly from Europe and North Africa. They thrive in full sun and light, well-drained soil. They are drought tolerant when established.
