We would like to thank our garden friend Kelli Dawson for providing this aster to us. We have grown Aster x frikartii 'Monch' for decades and find it to be one of the finest garden perennials we grow. The Swiss hybridizer Carl Ludwig Frikart created several similar crosses between Aster amellus and A. thomsonii but we had never seen any of the siblings of 'Monch' until Kelli gave us 'Jungfrau'. Both are long-blooming and have lavender blue flowers with yellow central disks. How are the two different? In our garden, Aster x frikartii 'Jungfrau' is taller and does not bloom quite as long as 'Monch'. In addition, 'Jungfrau' has semi-double flowers that are 1-1/2-to-2-inches wide while 'Monch' has single flowers. Seen side by side, they are easy to distinguish from each other. ( Both are named for Swiss mountains.)

Midsummer to early autumn.  24-36 in. x 36 in.
