Meadow saffron. As the common name indicates, this is a meadow bloomer. The cupped flowers surprise us as they rise on leafless stems in the autumn. In spring, cabbage-like leaves appear and persist until the summer heat. Let these naturalize in an unmowed lawn for an attractive effect.
