This dense, upright, evergreen shrub has small, dark, lance-shaped leaves which are thinly outlined in lime-green giving the plant a subtle radiance. The flowers give rise to the name "anomala" because they are 3-petalled instead of the normal 4. This has had a long history in the garden, having received the Award of Merit in England in 1891.
