One of the darkest cultivars of New Zealand flax, the glossy red-brown strap leaves are about 2 inches wide. Bloom spikes can reach 6 feet with tiers of off-red flowers (which are favorite perches for hummingbirds). Although these are fairly drought tolerant, it is advisible to give them occasional water during the hottest months.
Late spring to late summer. 5 ft. x 5 ft.
