The common name refers to the gloss on the dark green, somewhat fern-like, divided leaves. The flowers form fluffy flowerheads that are similar to the more familiar yellow meadow rue, Thalictrum flavum subsp. glaucum. This has been a sturdy plant in our gardens tolerating light shade and occasional dry periods.
